Wednesday Update, Training

This year, veteran's day has fallen on Wednesday and Beyond Basic Learning will be conducting staff professional development.  This year, we will be going back to basics and look at the role of teachers in supporting good healthy habits in the classroom.

As part of our training, we will have a special guest speaker come and discuss the issues around nutrition.  For this training, Ms. Inna Topiler will be visiting us.

Inna Topiler MS, CNS is a Clinical Nutritionist certified with the American College of Nutrition. Inna is dedicated to helping her patients clear up confusion about healthy eating and addressing the root causes of health concerns instead of just the symptoms.

In addition, I will be giving a workshop to the team from my thesis entitled "How to Teach Good Healthy Habits at a Young Age."  We will also be reviewing our 'Pump before you Punch' campaign and extend ourselves with meditation from Devotion Yoga.

Saying goodbye!

On Friday, Ms. Bruny will be leaving Beyond Basic Learning to pursue a career in the Hoboken Board of Education.   Ms. Bruny's has been with  our family for the past 5 years and has been a great contributor to the program.  With BBL's support, Ms. Bruny has attained her associate's degree in early childhood and is now seeking to pursue her bachelors in education.   We wish Ms. Bruny the best and invite her to visit with us in the future.

We have identified a new candidate for the Red Caterpillar room and are in the process of verifying the individual's records.

NAEYC annual Conference:

Again this year, I will be attending the National Association for the Education of Young Children conference held in Washington D.C.   At this conference, I have the opportunity to hear the latest information on child development and the research currently being conducted on various facets of mind development and growth.

Last year, I had the opportunity to hear the outcome of a study conducted on math and the outcomes of a strong program emphasizing math ideas.  The conference brought an ray of new products to Beyond Basic Learning: The chalk spinner, SmartBoard, Children's Puppets, New Children CD's, fake snow and science experiments, as well as new resource books for teachers and picture books for children.

Feel free to visit the website to learn more about NAEYC.

Contract Renewal

As part of our ongoing commitment to support our families, we are conducting a survey to obtain your feedback on actions that we are considering for the next Spring Contract renewal process.

In review of the 2008-2009 school year survey, many families requested more flexibility in their annual contract.   For this, we are considering extending the financial options available.   Currently, families can select the number of days that they would like to enroll the children in the program.  I have also been reviewing the pick-up times and saw that many children were being picked-up by 6 p.m. and less than 5% of the families where staying after 7:00 p.m.

For this, we are considering adding an addition payment scale for those families that will wish to have our services from 7:30 to 6 p.m. and a different payment scale for those families that wish to have services from 7:30 to 7:00 p.m.

We would love to hear from you.. So please complete the survey so we can work together to decide on the best course of action.

This month, I had the opportunity to conduct Math training for Kaplan Nursery School.  The focus was the introduction of mathematical language to 3's and 4's through the use of children's book.
