Daycare Service to Support Working Parents

Beyond Basic Learning: The International School
Expands Nursery School Service to Support Working Parents

Beyond Basic Learning, a state-of-the-art nursery school with two Hoboken riverfront locations, not only outshines competitors in providing excellent educational and children services, BBL listens and responds to the needs of working parents.

“We are as serious about the educational services we provide as we are dedicated about meeting the practical child care needs for the Hoboken community,” said Executive Director and Founder, Zuleika Fertullien.  “Working parents have been vocal about their scheduling challenges, and our desire is to help by bridging the gap between their specific childcare needs and standardized school closings and holidays.”

Every August BBL reassesses its current calendar and creates the new calendar based on feedback from parents.  After soliciting input through a survey it was recently learned, for example, that families overwhelmingly stated that  if given an option they prefer that the school closes just one week in August as opposed to the two last weeks in August as in years past.  In fact, 72% of families responded that they would reserve a seat for their child today if this change was made to the calendar.

“We recognize that closing the school for two weeks was an inconvenience to parents,” said Fertullien.  “So starting this month, BBL will remain open the third week of August, and will only be closed the fourth week of August, the official end of summer.  We are making this change simply because the needs of working parents truly matter to us.”

hoboken_digest_2011-05Parent Dina Tuckman expresses it this way, “Beyond Basic Learning has a great and flexible program.  We've used them for full time childcare, back-up childcare, and their summer program.  Our son, Jack returned as alumni this year for the summer program.  He loves his teachers and is having a fantastic summer!”

Since its inception 10 years ago, BBL has been sensitive about accommodating parents through a One Stop Shopping service model.  Child care is an around the calendar reality, although school closings are common throughout the year.  While BBL has made a number of incremental enhancements in its operational hours over the last year there are no additional charges for the new activities such as puppet shows, soccer, Music Together or Gym on Wheels.

In addition to remaining open for the additional week in August, other highlights of some changes for the 2011-2012 school year include extending operating hours during the first week of school in September from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  BBL has also reduced its number of holiday closings.

Even children are expressing joy about the extra hours as relayed by Joy Arbus about her daughter.  “Avarey had a really great experience in the summer program.  In fact, the first day when I went to pick her up she said, "Mom I am busy, can you come back later" and every day after that she asked me if I could pick her up later the next day so she wouldn't miss out on any activities.”

BBL is also extending it’s before and after day care with an extra half hour in the morning starting at 7:00 a.m. and a half hour in the evening ending at 7:30 p.m. for a nominal fee.  For more information, please contact our enrollment administrator at info@beyondbasiclearning.com.
