Blue Butterflies

The Blue Butterflies are quickly learning how to create elaborate structures in their block area by collaborating with their friends.  They look outside the window at the river front and Manhattan skyline for inspiration for their artwork and class projects.  During circle time, the window serves as the weather channel from which they document weather conditions and chart it on a graph.

What a wonderful room of inquiry!  What would happen if we had ten windy days in a month, or no rain at all?  What happens to the snow in the water table when it snows?  These questions are explored through the lessons the teachers create giving each child a voice in the learning process.

Green Butterflies (Pre-K)

The Green Butterflies are our senior students and the final class at Beyond Basic Learning. As our children prepare to enter kindergarten, we help families with the transition.  We provide workshops that  help demystify the admission process. Some of the schools our children have been accepted to in the state of New Jersey include Stevens Cooperative, Mustard Seed School, All Saints and Dwight Englewood School, as well as other educational programs outside of the United States.

Butterfly Classroom Observation: After learning about bread, where it comes from and how it is made, the children decide to have a bread taste test and chart their opinions on a graph.  All the children sample the variety of breads and give their opinion.  “I do not like it at all, I like it so-so, or I like it a lot.”
